What's SMARTER@HKU?

The University of Hong Kong launched the SMARTER@HKU Programme in 2017 to modernise professional services, thus creating the enabling platform for the University to pursue its vision to become Asia’s Global University by 2025. What are the components of SMARTER@HKU?

The SMARTER@HKU Programme consists of two distinct and yet integrated work streams: Efficient Resource Management (ERM) and Leadership Development (LD).

  • ERM - aims to improve the way that we work and deliver reforms across the University in order to maximise the utilisation of our resources.   Focus is given to three particular areas: Procurement, Premises and Processes.  
  • LD - aims to develop the University's leadership capabilities to bring about the ERM transformation and to realise the University's vision for 2025.

The SMARTER@HKU Programme has developed 12 + 2 building blocks to modernise professional services. The building blocks cover the Smarter Operating Model, Smarter Space Management, Smarter Use of the Market and Smarter Organisation & Management. Wave I is currently underway.

Why do we need a Leadership Development programme?

Why do we need a Leadership Development programme?

The Leadership Development (LD) programme is an integral part of SMARTER@HKU.  It provides the support that SMARTER Leaders need to overcome challenges in driving the transformational changes forward.

The LD programme consists of workshops, seminars, activities and coaching with clearly articulated learning outcomes.

What is the Professional Services Award?

What is the Professional Services Award?

The Professional Services Award (PSA) is an annual award programme at the University level to recognise and promote excellence in professional services. PSA is one of the important initiatives of the SMARTER@HKU Programme. There are two awards: Individual Award and Team Award.

All colleagues are welcome to nominate eligible professional services staff members (or when they are on teams) who have made outstanding contribution in professional services and demonstrated the core values of the SMARTER@HKU Programme.  For the details about the Professional Services Award 2018, visit: https://www.smarter.hku.hk/en/PSA.
