Work SMARTER Days
An inspirational statesman, writer, orator and leader, Sir Winston Churchill, once said, “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” With awareness and commitment to continuous improvement, we can keep discovering ways to work smarter and achieve our goals.
Over 120 colleagues from different Faculties and departments joined the Work SMARTER Days on August 2 and 3, 2018 to learn about ways of modernising professional services at the University in a relaxing atmosphere. They met members of the Programme Management Team for updates on the SMARTER@HKU Programme and understood how SMARTER@HKU related to their work.
The event also featured the Talk on “A Road to a Culture of Continuous Improvement” by guest speaker Mr. Charles Ho, Global Training Manager of MTR Corporation. Participants were introduced to the Work Improvement Team Programme that MTR has been running for 30 years to encourage innovative ideas and actions from staff for continuous improvement. They also exchanged ideas with Mr. Ho on ways to motivate colleagues and to build a strong engagement culture.
To add fun to the Work SMARTER Days, a series of booth games were developed where colleagues could learn about good practices of working smarter in an interesting way. Through the games, they understood more about the importance of teamwork, good organisation and creating a happy environment in enhancing work efficiency.
The Work SMARTER Days aimed to promote the culture of continuous improvement. It provided an excellent opportunity for colleagues to exchange ideas on work efficiency, get to know each other and strengthen their sense of belonging to the University. The event was well received. Participants remarked the activity helped enhance their synergy and positive thinking for work improvement.
